Mile High Hope is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 Colorado charitable organization assisting youth in foster care through educational scholarships and community involvement. Our goal is to offer as many scholarships as possible in the following areas: GED, trade school, vocational school, community college and 4 year degrees. Along with each scholarship awarded, each youth will be paired with a trained mentor to help him/her succeed in the degree or program they choose.
Mile High Hope has enjoyed great growth over the past four years. We now are able to spend a good bit of our time throughout the year hosting art days/nights with foster youth in our community. These art days are held at various counties and agencies. The youth who attend enjoy having some time to just be creative and not be a case number.
Why Mile High Hope was started… The founders of MHH are foster parents themselves and have seen the highs and some of the lows that youth in foster care encounter. The founders wanted to do more to help these youth in foster care. After doing some research on statistics of youth in foster care, it became evident that something needed to be done that would have a direct impact on these youth’s lives. *Nationwide, there are roughly 540,000 children in the foster care system and only 150,000 foster homes. 100,000 of these youth are over the age of 16. Each year, about 20,000 youth in foster care make the transition from foster care to legal emancipation or move to aftercare. After being on their own for four years, only 1 in 4 of the youth who have made the transition is capable of sustaining life above poverty level. Most are not able to find the financial and emotional support that is required to succeed. Mile High Hope wants to help change this.
